The German government strives for a CO2 emission reduction of 40% from 1990 level in 2020.

Emissions and removals of CO2 from the atmosphere generated by forestry activities will be included to meet the national reduction targets.

The amount of the carbon pool in wood products from 2013 on will also be included.
